Born Claudia Alta Taylor in Karnack, Texas. She was given her nickname by a nursemaid at age two. Received B.A. from University of Texas in 1933; LL.D. from Texas Women's University in 1964. Married Lyndon Baines Johnson November 17, 1934. They had two daughters. Owner operator of station KTBC 1942 to 1963. "Lady Bird" appears on a mint medal (USM 687 & 688) She appears on the “First Spouse” $10 gold coin and corresponding bronze medal. (to be released August 2015).

She died at home.
