John Adam Kasson

Biography

Born in Charlotte, Vermont. Graduated from University of Vermont in 1842. Studied law and admitted to the bar. Elected to the U. S. house of Representatives from Iowa. Appointed by Lincoln as First Assistant Postmaster General.

He proposed the four dollar gold “Stella” patterns struck in 1879 and 1880. 

He was a delegate to the 1889 Samoan Conference in Berlin.

He died in Washington, D.C.
