Sydney Philip Noe

Biography

Born in Woodbridge, New Jersey. Graduate of Rutgers University in 1910. Served with the Coast Artillery in 1918.

He served in several offices for the ANS:

Librarian January 27, 1915, to January 15, 1938

Secretary January 20, 1917, to April 15, 1947

Editor October 1, 1921, to January 13, 1945

Curator January 15, 1938, to April 15, 1947

Chief Curator April 15, 1947, to Aug 31, 1953

Curator of Greek Coins April 16, 1947, to Jan 10, 1953

Chief Curator Emeritus September 1, 1953, until 1969

He received the Archer Huntington Award from the ANS in 1937.

Author of The Medallic Work of A. A. Weinman in 1921 as ANS monograph 7; The Castine Deposit: An American Hoard in 1942 as ANS monograph 100; The New England and Willow Tree Coinage of Massachusetts in 1943, ANS 102; The Oak Tree Coinage of Massachusetts in 1947, ANS 110; The Coinage of Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1950; The Pine Tree Coinage of Massachusetts in 1952, ANS 125; The Silver Coinage of Massachusetts of 1973.

He died in a hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
