George H. Norman
Born in Newport, Rhode Island. Employed as a store clerk until he bought the business. He started publication of The Newport Daily News. In 1853 he began management of the local gas works. He became a successful civil engineer and contractor in the construction of gas and water plants.
He appears on medals produced for the Newport Rhode Island Schools (Julian SC-29 and SC-30). Production of the medals began in 1868 at the Philadelphia Mint.
