Gabriel Edward Parker
Biography
Born in Fort Towson, (Choctaw Nation), Oklahoma, a 1/8 Chocktaw Indian. Received B.A. from Henry Kendall College at Muskegee, Oklahoma in 1899. Married Louise Elizabeth George December 25, 1900. He was a 32nd degree Mason.
Employed as a teacher and principal of Spencer Academy at Nelson, Oklahoma, 1899 to 1900 and principal and superintendent for Armstrong Academy 1900 to 1913. Served as a member of the Oklahoma Constitutional Convention in 1907.
Served as Register of the Treasury 1913 to 1915 at an annual salary of $4000. Served as superintendent for the Five Civilized Tribes after 1915 at an annual salary of $5000.
His son, Gabe E. Parker, Jr. attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and rose to the rank of Colonel. Father and son died of heart attacks on the same day in 1953.
