Born in Palm Beach, Florida. Married to Wendy Judge September 6, 1969, with two children.

Graduate of Dartmouth College in 1968; Masters from Harvard in 1970. Chaiman and CEO of Goldman Sachs Group. Chairman of the Nature Conservancy.

Served as Secretary of the Treasury July 10, 2006 to January 20, 2009. The obverse of his medal was by Jim Licaretz. Reverse was by Don Everhart.
