John Pell

Born in London, England. Nephew of Thomas Pell and heir to his title, Lord of Pelham Manor. Married to Rachel Pinckney...
In 1687 he sold a tract of land amounting to 6000 acres now occupied by New Rochelle, New York. He may be the person represented on the obverse of the 1938 New Rochelle commemorative half dollar. Under the provisions of the sale, Pell and his heirs were to receive “one fatt calfe” on June 24 each year forever.
