William Penn
Biography
bORN IN London, England. Married Gulielma Maria Springett April 4, 1672. She died in 1694. Married Hannah Callowhill in January 1696. He had four sons.
Penn received a land grant from Charles II. On this land he founded the colony of Pennsylvania in 1681. He died in Ruscombe, Berkshire.

Penn appears on three mint medals. A 38 mm medal (Julian CM-40) was produced for the Pennsylvania Bicentennial in 1882. Dies were by George T. Morgan. A second 38 mm medal (Julian CM-41) has the same obverse but a different reverse. The third medal for the Bicentennial was 25 mm (Julian CM-42) with dies by Morgan. Julian reports that 75,000 were distributed during a parade October 24, 1882. The mint sold modern copies of this medal (USM 613).
