Frank C. Ross
Biography
Born in Bloomington, Illinois. He moved to Kansas City in 1890. Married Leah Richmond. They had two sons and a daughter. Employed as an insurance adjuster with Groves Brothers Insurance Company. He retired in 1949.
Editor of the numismatic section of Hobbies magazine for 20 years. Author of “Numismatic Thoughts” column. He hoarded the 1844 dime and promoted it as a great rarity. He gave the issue the name "Little Orphan Annie" dime. Various stories were told to explain why the dimes were rare: they were hijacked by Indians on there way across the west, they were lost in the Johnstown Flood, burned in the Chicago Fire, or lost by the USPS in a shipment to PCGS.
