Helen Louise Taft


Born as Helen Herron in Cincinnati. Ohio. She married William Taft in 1886. They had two sons and a daughter. She died in Washington, D.C. and is buried next to the president at Arlington national Cemetery.

She appears on the “First Spouse” gold coin and corresponding bronze medal released on December 2, 2013. The obverse was designed by William C. Burgard and engraved by Phoebe Hemphill. The reverse was designed by Richard Masters and engraved by Charles Vickers.
