Carmi Alderman Thompson

Biography

Born in Wayne County, West Virginia. Received Ph.B. from Ohio State University in 1892 and LL.B. in 1895. Admitted to the bar in 1893 and practiced law in Ironton, Ohio. He served in the military during the Spanish American War. Married Leila E. Ellers May 3, 1899. They had a daughter.

He served as city solicitor 1896 to 1903. Elected to the Ohio House of Representatives and served 1904 to 1907. Appointed secretary of state in Ohio and served 1907 to 1911. Appointed Assistant Secretary of the Interior March 6, 1911, to July 1, 1912.

Appointed Treasurer of the United States and served November 22, 1912, to March 31, 1913. His signature appears on silver certificates, series of 1899.

President of Tod-Stambaugh Company 1917 to 1924. Chairman of the board of Midland Steamship Company after 1924. He was a member of the Masons and several other clubs.
