Alexander Dallas.

Military Academy at West Point in 1825. He was a professor at the University of Pennsylvania 1828 to 1841. He was first president of Central High School of Philadelphia 1839 to 1842, across the street from the Mint.

He was appointed superintendent of the Unites States Coast Survey in 1843.

His coin collection was consigned to Woodward for auction in 1865. Bache lots were not identified. Lot 2818 was an 1861 $20 gold piece, probably presented by Pacquet to Bache. Bache received an 1838-O half dollar from Rufus Tyler that may be a unique example from the first striking.
