Anna (Tuthill Symmes) Harrison


Born in Flatbrookville, New Jersey. Married William Henry Harrison on November 25, 1795. They had ten children although she outlived nine of them.

William died a month after the inauguration before Anna could join him in Washington. She never lived in the White House. She died at home in North Bend, Ohio.

Anna appears on the “First Spouse” $10 gold coin released March 5, 2009, and the corresponding bronze medal. The obverse was designed by Donna Weaver and sculpted by Joseph Menna. Reverse designed by Thomas Cleveland and sculpted by Charles Vickers.
