The obverse closely resembles that of the K-1 gold dollar, while the reverse is like those found on Bechtler’s earlier quarter eagles. The rarity of this variety points to the overwhelming popularity of Bechtler’s innovative new denomination, the gold dollar. Of fewer than ten known pieces, six are in private hands.
