      General Notes: At 1,000 coins struck in 1870, the Indian Cent Series sees its highest mintage yet. A rather common coin that is scarce only as a high-end gem with brown color. Also common with red-brown surfaces with scarcity starting at PR65. Full red examples are even scarcer. The 1870 is only rare, in any way, if there are cameo surfaces. Look for attractively toned brown pieces or blazing red surfaces as those are the most desirable and are not too difficult to find.
