      General Notes: The mintage drops to 1,862 for the 1896 proof Indian Cent putting it back under the two thousand mark for the first time in almost 20 years. Very common with the brown color designation. Gradually more scarce in red-brown especially PR66 or finer. Red gems are rare and any cameo is rare as well. Look for attractively toned brown pieces or blazing red surfaces as those are highly sought after and are not too difficult to find.
