The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM on the top perimeter. General Notes: The 1944-D over S is a popular variety with at least two types known, though the most prominent examples show the D much lower than the original S mintmark. A few thousand survivors are known to exist. While the coin is scarce in all grades, it is not a categorically cost-prohibitive coin, at least for the most die-hard of Lincoln cent specialists.
