Longacre Edge: Plain Obverse Description: A six-pointed star with a harp in the center is surrounded by UNITED STATES OF AMERICA on the periphery and the date positioned at the bottom. For the type II issues (1854-58) there are two frame lines around the star. Reverse Description: The roman numeral III is centered in the design ensconced in a large, bejeweled letter C surrounded by 13 stars on the periphery. An olive sprig is added above the roman numerals. General Notes: The 1854 Proof Three Cent Silver is a very desirable rarity in the series with a mintage of just 30 coins. Rare from MS60 through MS62. MS63 and MS64 are very rare with gems being extreme rarities as they do not come up in auction very often, if at all. Look for attractive toners as this series is full of them.
