      Reverse Description: Eagle with drooped wings, holding an olive branch (with seven leaves) and three arrows. Around border, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA / 2-1/2 DOLLARS around.
      General Notes: 1878 $2.50. The first in a series of gold patterns this year. The head seems to be too large for the field, and the design is hardly finessed. The widely-spaced motto, typically a minor part of any coin design, is placed in a very prominent position here.
