MacNeil Edge: Reeded Obverse Description: MacNeil's Liberty stands with one hand holding an olive branch, the other bearing a shield. A ribbon connects the branch to the shield. The world LIBERTY appears across the top periphery and the date is centered at the bottom. 13 stars appear to the side of Liberty. Mint mark, if any, is positioned above the date to the left of Liberty. Reverse Description: An eagle in full flight, facing right, with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA above the great raptor. Stars flank the left and right peripheries with the words QUARTER DOLLAR at the bottom. General Notes: The 1918-D is a slightly scarcer date across all grades in the Standing Liberty Quarter Series. A better date in circulated grades whose scarcity increases gradually into Mint State. Once this issue hits the gem level it gains some rarity with MS65 and MS66 being very scarce. MS67 and finer are considered rare.
