The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM on the top perimeter. General Notes: The 1958 doubled die obverse Lincoln cent is one of the rarest varieties of the 20th century, with only three known examples. Doubling is evident with the naked eye in the date, inscription LIBERTY, and in the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. In March 2018, a PCGS-graded MS64RD example garnered a whopping $336,000 at auction. In January 2023, GreatCollections sold the finest known example -- PCGS/CAC MS66 RD -- for $1.136 million, the most ever realized for a Lincoln cent, and the first Lincoln to break $1 million at auction.
