Reverse Description: Lincoln memorial building centered with words ONE CENT, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA on top and bottom periphery. E PLURIBUS UNUM centered above the top of the memorial. General Notes: The 1992-D Close AM Lincoln cent is a very scarce transitional variety that was discovered in 2001. This piece features the A and M of AMERICA on the reverse very close together, with the bottoms of those two letters virtually touching each other. As the 1992-D Close AM Lincoln cents feature the reverse used on regular production 1993 pennies, it is theorized that the 1992-D Close AM cents were struck as trials to test the new reverse dies.

Looking for tight proximity between the A and M is a quick diagnostic for attributing the 1992 Close AM Lincoln cent.
