The words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA * ONE DOLLAR frame the periphery. Mint mark, if any, appears above the letters DO of DOLLAR. General Notes: The San Francisco Mint is known for producing some rarities in the Morgan dollar series, but the 1897-S is among the S-mint Morgans that is common in worn grades and lower uncirculated levels.
