Seated Dollars (Proof)
Liberty Seated dollars were struck from 1840 through 1873, following production of their predecessor patterns (known as ?Gobrecht dollars?) from 1836 through 1839. All dates of the Liberty Seated dollar series proper and restrikes of the patterns are represented with proofs.
Proof Liberty Seated dollars are extremely scarce and some dates are especially rare, with several issues ? especially those from the 1840s and 1850s ? surviving in but mere handfuls today. Meanwhile, the proof Gobrecht dollar pattern restrikes are also rare, with only a few remaining examples of each type.
Proof Liberty Seated dollars from the 1860s and 1870s are slightly more common than their earlier counterparts. Cameo and deep cameo proof Liberty Seated dollars command higher prices than listed for more ?typical? specimens with duller surfaces and no cameo frost on the devices.
