Eric P. Newman Correspondence (Louisiana Purchase Sesquicentennial Celebration)

The Eric P. Newman correspondence files begin in the 1930s and extend into the 2010s. Newman generally saved incoming correspondence in addition to copies of outgoing correspondence, and the size of the entire archive is on the order of 50,000 pages. Newman's original classification is retained, including subject files, correspondent files, and assorted files (A-Z). Generally, entries in the assorted files are several pages or less, with larger items transferred to subject or correspondent files as size warranted.

Louisiana Purchase Sesquicentennial Celebration: Commemorative Half Dollar Correspondence, 1952-1954

Correspondence between Eric Newman and a collection of others, including state senators and members of the Missouri Historical Society, on the topic of passing a legislative bill to allow the creation of a commemorative coin celebrating the 150 year anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase. The bill was ultimately vetoed by President Eisenhower and the coin was never created. Correspondents include George H. Moore; Thomas B. Curtis; William W. Meriwether Lewis from Thomas Jefferson, dated July 6, 1803. 5) Pamphlet outlining the basic functions of the Missouri Historical Society. 6) Pamphlet copy of Bill H.R. 2523, dated February 3, 1953, from the 83rd Congress, 1st Session. 7) Pamphlet copy of Bill S. 1378, dated March 18, 1953, from the 83rd Congress, 1st Session. 8) Pamphlet copy of Bill H.R. 1917, dated January 19, 1953, from the 83rd Congress, 1st Session, attached to an April 17, 1953 letter from Thomas Curtis. 9) Clipping from an unidentified newspaper, titled "House Okays Bill for La. Purchase Coin", author unknown, attached to a letter dated July 8, 1953 from Charles van Ravenswaay.
