Auction Summary
HANS M F SCHULMAN, 545 Fifth Ave. NY, NY
Scheduled for 03/15/1941, Shelton Hotel, Lexington Ave & 48th St., NY. Auction 3 in USA (would have been no. 191 in Holland).
52 pp. 1125 lots, worldwide from ancients to 20th century including some countermarked coins. No full page plates but 7 individual photos including one not of coin for sale (lot 9) but similar coin to represent the type (Ptolemy III Octadrachm bust of Arsinoe III not in BMC). Interesting commentary p. 3, “Public Sale. Although I received quite a few requests to hold a mail bid sale, I could not decide myself in favor of this. So there will be again a PUBLIC AUCTION under the able supervision of auctioneer O. Rundle Gilbert, at the popular Shelton Hotel. I have a feeling that a mail sale does not give the collector enough security. He does not know happens but he certainly does at any public sale. As usual the auctioneer will announce the unsold items.” [Auction description courtesy of Herman Blanton,]
