Auction Summary

Bound together with Helbin sale of March 28, 1887.

There is some confusion as to the year this sale took place. One of the American Numismatic Society's bound copies [2426] has the year 1887 on the spine but no year on the sale itself (18870328). In the second ANS bound copy [435], 1892 is the handwritten date on the cover of this sale. In the [435] volume, the Hugo Helbing [Professors P.M.] sale precedes this one, with a handwritten date of 1891.In an ANS bound volume with the year 1887 on the spine, the only two sales are the Hugo Helbing [Professors P.M.] sale, followed by the Hugo Helbing [August Artaria] sale. The [August Artaria] sale in the [1887 spine] volume also has no year on the cover. But based on the announcement of the [August Artaria] sale on the back of the the [Professors P.M.] sale, and the consecutive months of these sales, [Professors P.M.]: March 28 and [August Artaria]: April 27, as well as their existence together as the only two sales in this bound volume with 1887 on the spine, led to the selection of 1887 as the probable date of both sales.
