Paul will discuss the early history of Canadian coinage including some highlights of significant events that shaped the future of numismatics in Canada. This includes the adoption of the decimal system based on a "dollar" in 1858, the opening of the Ottawa, Ontario branch of the Royal Mint in 1908 to strike Canadian Coins, the Currency Act of 1910 giving authority for the production of a silver dollar and the striking of commemorative coinage in Canada.
