This includes the adoption of the decimal system based on a "dollar" in 1858, the opening of the Ottawa, Ontario branch of the Royal Mint in 1908 to strike Canadian Coins, the Currency Act of 1910 giving authority for the production of a silver dollar and the striking of commemorative coinage in Canada.
