A study on the tradition of coins used in the ancient world related to death experience. This presentation will explore relevant customs in different locations and eras of the ancient world. Cases of archaeological findings will be presented supported with rich photographic evidence. Presenting: Dr. George Anastasopoulos, who is a Mechanical Engineer with an MSc and a PhD in Applied Mechanics from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois with extended experience is testing and characterization of materials. He is the Vice President of the International Accreditation Service (IAS), a global accreditation body headquartered at Brea, California. He is a coin collector since his early youth with emphasis to ancient Greek and Byzantine Period coins. He is member of American Numismatic Society (ANS), American Numismatic Association (ANA), Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), Numismatic Association of Southern California (NASC) and Ancient Coin Club of Los Angeles (ACCLA). This presentation was part of the 2020 Newman Numismatic Portal Sympsosium, held virtually, August 28-30, 2020.
