An overview of the history of collecting in the United States during the 19th century, followed by a more focused examination of the trade in ancient coins in the United States before the Second World War. Auction catalogues including photographically printed illustrations of ancient coins will serve as material witnesses to this subject, and examples will be shown and discussed via a PowerPoint presentation.
