Two spine labels with handwritten notations, one of them worn; minor spotting. Near fine. A handsome example of one of the classic numismatic works of the sixteenth century, first published in 1559. Bassoli observes that this work "presents to the reader a complete story of coinage from the consular and imperial Roman period but puts forward the peculiar theory that all the coins found up until then, at least the imperial ones, were nothing more than medals struck in honour and glory of those princes they represent.. in other words, he sees the coin as an objet d'art rather than a vulgar means of exchange."
