Final Catalogue of the Ottavio Fontana Collection Sestini, Domenico. DESCRIZIONE DI ALTRE MEDAGLIE GRECHE DEL MUSEO DEL SIGNORE CARLO D’OTTAVIO FONTANA DI TRIESTE IN AGGIUNTA ALLA PRIMA, E SECONDA PARTE GIÀ EDITE. Firenze: Presso Guglielmo Piatti, 1829. 4to, later hand-lettered boards. x, 114 pages; corrigenda leaf tipped in; 6 + 12 + 7 engraved plates of coins. binding somewhat worn; contents near fine. Very rare: unlisted by Babelon and the first copy we have handled. This was the third and final volume published by Sestini illustrating examples from the massive collection of Greek coins formed by Carlo Ottavio Fontana (1774–1832), and, as explained by Sestini in his introduction, it takes a cumulative approach. In 1822, the first catalogue of this portion of his collection was published, with six plates; it was followed by a second catalogue in 1827, with twelve plates. This third catalogue brings together all of the coins listed in the first and second volumes, in somewhat truncated form, to which are added new purchases (indicated with an asterisk), which are fully catalogued. Importantly, the plates to all three parts are included. A significant collection. Ottavio Fontana’s Roman Republican coins were also published by Sestini. Leitzmann 130.
