Minervini’s Rare Numismatic Observations Minervini, Giulio. SAGGIO DI OSSERVAZIONE NUMISMATICHE. Napoli: Giuseppe Cataneo, 1856. 4to, original printed yellow boards. (4), 179, (1) pages; 7 very attractive plates engraved by Andrea Russo depicting ancient coins. Boards worn, particularly at corners (and especially at rear), but binding sound. Very good. Rare: only the second copy we have offered in at least thirty years. The engraved plates are well executed. “G. Minervini (1819–1891), like Fiorelli and Cavedoni a contributor to the [Bollettino archaeologico napoletano], published his observations on the coins of Magna Graecia as well as other studies” (Babelon 163). A Note from the Collector: I remember trying to find this book in vain; an obscure reference to a coin illustrated there would confirm the identity of a rarity in my collecting series. It turned up after many years and what a thrill it was to finally hold it in my hands.
