Complete. 4to, contemporary matching full brown tree calf; spines elaborately ruled and decorated in gilt; red and black morocco spine labels, gilt, with inlaid volume numbers on red morocco within black labels; board edges decorated in gilt; page edges yellow. (16), xxxix, (1), 507, (1) + (4), 502 pages; 61 engraved plates of coins; other engravings of coins in the text. Joints somewhat weak; second volume head lightly chipped; endpapers with some discoloration. Still a remarkably attractive set, with fresh and clean interiors. Very good or better. A beautifully bound set of this important work. Published posthumously by the author’s son, Cooke’s work employs coins to illustrate Roman history and the lives of the emperors. Seldom encountered.
