Athletics on Greek Monuments & Coins Zeibich, Gottlob Erdmann. ATHLETA ΠΑΡΑΔΟΞΟΣ E MONIMENTIS GRAECIAE VETERIS CONSPECTUI EXPOSITUS. INSERTAE SUNT ALIQUOT NUMISMATUM ICONES AC GRAECAE INSCRIPTIONES.. Vitembergae: Sumtu Io. Ioach. Ahlfeldii, 1748. Small 8vo, contemporary vellum with hand-lettered spine. xl, 196 pages; several engraved images of coins throughout; woodcut tailpieces. Intermittent foxing, browning and discoloration. Very good or so. Rare: the first copy we have handled. Dekesel gives Zeibich’s dates as 1728–1787, while other sources state 1722–1747. Given that the first of the four numismatic titles attributed to him by Dekesel was printed in 1743 and the last (this one) in 1748, we’re inclined to think that 1722–1747 is more likely.
