Crown 4to, later dark blue full crushed morocco; both sides bordered in gilt; board edges ruled in gilt; gilt inner dentelles; spine with five raised bands, ruled, lettered, and decorated in gilt; marbled endpapers; original printed card covers bound in. 234, (4) pages; 32 very fine plates. Housed in matching slipcase. Pages unopened. Some foxing, most notable on the page edges. Near fine. An exquisitely bound copy of this most useful and handsomely illustrated introduction to historical medals, from the Renaissance to modern times. Clain-Stefanelli 14091. Modesti 102: "Utilissimo strumento di consultazione, anche per la finezza delle riproduzioni; traccia la storia della medaglia dal Rinascimento ai tempi moderni. Notevole anche sul piano strettamente letterario, nonché su quello più propriamente scientifico, dato che il Babelon fu il Conservatore del Medagliere Nazionale Francese (Cabinet des Médailles)."
