A name given to any coin that represents the tenth multiple of some standard. It was applied to the pieces of ten Kreuzer, which appeared in southern Germany in the sixteenth century, and which bore the figure 10. The same term was given to the Austrian pieces of ten Kreuzer, and to the Swiss coins of ten Batzen.
