Paisa

A copper coin of Hindustan, frequently referred to as Pice, though Paisa is probably the older name. It is found existing as far back as the sixteenth century. The value varied, being from forty to eighty to the Rupee.

The minor coinage of Mysore, under Tipu Sultan, is usually classified by this name.

In Mombasa, Zanzibar, and German East Africa, the Paisa, also called Pysa, has been introduced since 1881. Conf. also Baisa.
