Accession Medal
Accession Medal. A medallic item issued on the occasion of a monarch's accession to the throne. Many accession medals have been issued since the 15th century, as this is a popular event for medallic commemoration. It differs from a coronation medal issued for a coronation – but is somewhat comparable to an inaugural medal for a new president, issued in a democracy, or a proclamation medal issued in Spanish American countries for a new ruler.
