Awarded
Awarded. A medallic item intended to be bestowed to a recipient, and one so conveyed. Awarded medals must be inscribed, within an area on the medal – called a reserve – where the lettering is intended to be placed, often in a cartouche. In rare instances a medal is awarded uninscribed and it is up to the recipient to arrange for his own inscribing. Awarded medals, for the most part, however, are suitably lettered with a recipient's name, often the date, event and other data. stock medals are sometimes intended to be awarded, these have somewhat of a generic design and are customized by the inscribing.
