D

D.  Abbreviation appearing after a name on medals indicating designer or delineator. Other abbreviations are similarly located; a U.S. Mint medal, the Daniel Webster Medal of 1851 (Julian PE-37), is signed meade bros, dag. Obviously the portrait was modeled from a daguerreotype supplied by Mead Brothers.
