Faulty Casting

Faulty Casting.  An imperfectly cast medal, comparable to mis-struck of a struck coin or medal. A writer on casting, C.W. Ammen, once listed 36 casting defects that can occur during metalcasting. Many of these anomalies are just as important in casting medals as any other cast object, and the terms mean the same, as: boss, fin, blister, pinhole and rough surface. Many are concerned with trapped gas or air, unclean patterns, or improperly prepared molds.
