Fretwork
Fretwork. A border design of intertwined lines. Fretwork repeats a simple pattern many times to form an ornamental border. Its style is typically Arabic, is somewhat monotonous, and is less attractive than, say, a foliated design. A fretwork design of alternating and interlocking right angles is called Greek key.
