Integral Part

Integral Part.  Any part of a medallic item that is cut into the die along with the medal design – as a projection or loop – and struck with the medallic item as one piece. Integral parts reduce costs and add uniformity to all pieces in a production run. They are in contrast to all separate component parts of a medal that are attached to the base medal afterwards, as soldering on a loop or a surround, after the medal is trimmed.
