Lunette

Lunette.  Half round or crescent shaped; a medal in half round shape, or a semi-circular panel within a design. The term comes from architecture where a lunette is a semi- circular opening where decorative work is located. It is also found on 18th century furniture with a fan-shaped decoration. See unusual shape.
