Roughcast

Roughcast.  The cast piece as it comes from the mold and before it is chased, often with bosses, burrs and imperfections which need to be smoothed out during chasing.

The term is similar to as-cast; but roughcast is before any chasing occurs; as-cast is before any toning, tarnish or patina occurs to a cast piece.
