Sinking

Sinking.  Diesinking; creating a die, not by engraving or carving, but by hubbing – pressing a hard steel pattern into a soft steel block.  See hubbing.

This experimental medal was made of powder metals and formed by compaction and sintering. It was made for Franklin Mint. It proved the unworthiness of this process for medal manufacture.
