Split Collar
Split Collar. A special collar which is engraved with letters or ornaments to form raised lettering on struck numismatic pieces. The collar, in three or more segments, rests within a retaining ring in coining position, and must be broken apart after each striking to retrieve the struck piece. A more precise term is segmented collar.
