Stylus
Stylus. A sharp pointed tool to guide a mechanism to perform in a controlled manner. A stylus is used on patterns in most mechanical diecutting machines, as tracer controlled or die-engraving pantographs. The shape of the stylus's point allows it to enter crevices of the pattern and, in effect, convey this information to the cutting point to reproduce
