Subsidiary Device

Subsidiary Device.  A design element of secondary nature; not the main device on a numismatic or medallic object. While the principal design is called the device, some designs do have lesser elements, as seals, ornaments, adminicles, attributes or such; these are the subsidiary devices. Some British writers call this accessory symbol.
